Scheherezade

Scheherezade is the first of Wendy's productions. Written over seven yearsand finally coming to the stage in February 2002, Wendy broke new ground in the world of theatre with Scheherezade. Scheherezade is the first musical production in the world written entirely by a woman, this includes the script, music and lyrics.

Scheherezade is set in ancient Arabia in the palace of the Sultan Schariar. Arabia is now the target of domination for the grand vizier who is bent destroying the Sultan to get his way. Scheherezade, a young commoner, is brought into the harem to await her fate. Determined to save themselves and the rest of Arabia from the power of the Vizier, Hedda, Jamal, Assad and Dariel set about summoning the Jinni of Arabia. It is then up to the Jinni, Scheherezade and the others to save Arabia.

A tale of love is interwoven with humour and sadness, as the Sultan struggles to come to terms with his father's death and gain control against the Vizier, the Harem and Courtiers wait in fear for the day when the Sultan will order them executed and Scheherezade realises that she is not a mere commoner, but the one chosen to see the great Jinni of Arabia.
